A molded
shaped CD operates just like our cut CDs. The primary difference
between a molded and cut CD is the ability to do offset printing
on cut CDs. The only way to tell the two types of shaped CDs
apart is to look at the sides of the CD or to look at the
back of the CD. A molded CD will have a shiny edge and a cut
CD will have a slight texture. If you look at the back of
the CD a molded CD will have a thin border of clear plastic
whereas a cut CD will have the foil all the way to the edge.
The molded CDs hold 50MB of information while the Cut CDs
are able to hold as much as 60MB of information.
Notice
the thin plastic border around the molded CD.

The
cut CDs foil goes out to the edge.

All
recordable rectangular Business Card CDs are molded
with a capacity of 40MB.
