The
patented stabiliation ring is essentially a raised round skid
affixed to the underside of a tradtional CD Rom. The stabilization
ring is 80mm in diameter and is designed to fit in the 80mm
(mini round) portion of your CD Rom Drive. The stabilization
ring, along with the centripical force caused by spinning the
CD keeps the shaped CD in place and balanced so it can be read.
Other CDs, like the oval CD and the mini round CD, used the
same concept of balancing off of the 80mm indentation. The maximum
capacity of a shaped CD is 200MB because the optical reader
cannot see past the stabilization ring. |
